Connect your own domain
Step-by-step for pointing handmadebyjane.com at your Painted Porch shop — works with any registrar.
Connect your own domain
When you upgrade past Free Porch, you can use your own domain — handmadebyjane.com or similar — instead of a subdomain. We'll handle the SSL certificate automatically. Setup takes about 5–30 minutes depending on how fast your DNS propagates.
Step 1: Buy a domain (if you don't have one)
Any registrar works — GoDaddy, Namecheap, Google Domains, Cloudflare Registrar. Pick something short and easy to say. A .com is always safest; .shop is fine too.
Step 2: Add it in your dashboard
- Go to Settings → Domain in your Painted Porch dashboard.
- Type your domain (no
www, nohttps://) and hit Add domain. - We'll show you two DNS records to add at your registrar.
Step 3: Add the DNS records
At your registrar, find the DNS or Manage domain section for your domain. Add these two records:
| Type | Name | Value |
|------|------|-------|
| A | @ | 76.76.21.21 |
| CNAME | www | cname.vercel-dns.com |
Save. DNS changes can take anywhere from 2 minutes to 24 hours to propagate globally (most of the time it's under 15 minutes).
Step 4: Click Verify
Back in Settings → Domain, click Verify next to your domain. We'll check the DNS and flip the switch. Your shop is now live at your own domain with automatic SSL.
Troubleshooting
"Not yet" when I click Verify. DNS hasn't propagated. Wait 10 minutes and try again. You can check propagation at dnschecker.org.
My registrar has different field names. "Host" usually means "Name", "Points to" or "Target" means "Value", and "TTL" can be left at default (or 3600). If you're stuck, email us with your registrar name.
I want to use a subdomain like shop.mybrand.com. Use a CNAME record instead of A: CNAME / shop / cname.vercel-dns.com. Same verify flow.
